ozone affairs

Erin Taylor

a billboard in bold
“THE SUN LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE”
is it really necessary to talk up the sun? the grass blades yawn
in the wind.
&
the trees are blooming white & gold
& the sun is caressing the Earth.
their love affair is speeding toward an end like all love affairs do
they all run their course
they all have their ends.
the Earth has grown too dependent,
too vulnerable,
defenses down
& the sun too intense,
too involved,
caring heavily & all at once.
the sun caresses the Earth’s soil &
the Earth melts & floods
& sobs.
the Earth will crave the sun’s touch until it can no longer feel,
charred
& the Sun will burn out giving but will still give all the same
until they are barely a light.
a billboard screams
“THE SUN LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE.”
hi-def photos of destruction
hi-def photos of aching & longing.

they are a married couple going to counseling
they are a married couple staying together for the children
they are a married couple in love after two glasses of wine
when the nostalgia hits.
